Prepare the peel before it meets the opening tools
Fruit-surface debris can reach the opening area on the peel, transfer equipment or wash water. Washing forms one part of that preparation, alongside receiving inspection, water control and removal of damaged fruit.
The brush bed presents successive fruit surfaces to mechanical contact while the spray arrangement supplies rinse water. Contact pressure, residence and bed loading should remove the relevant soil without producing unacceptable abrasion or rupturing fruit. A trial should include the smallest, largest and most fragile fruit expected during the season.

Keep wash-water management visible in the line design
The water arrangement determines how removed dirt leaves the process. Separate fresh-water supply, any recirculating section and dirty-water discharge on the utility drawing. The installed spray pattern should cover the working bed rather than simply wet its edges.
Specify water treatment and any sanitation procedure through the plant hygiene plan. Washing does not by itself establish a microbial reduction claim or replace the downstream treatment required for the packed product.
Make wet-area cleaning a routine operation
Brushes, supports and the area below the bed need accessible cleaning and inspection. Broken peel and leaves should not collect where they can return to the fruit stream after a stop.
The machine arrangement shown uses brushes and sprays. Other washing methods can be evaluated for a particular supply of fruit, but the contact method, water system and resulting fruit condition should be specified as one package before fixing line capacity.
